SOME MIGHT SAY BEACH HOUSE REACHED THEIR APEX WITH DEVOTION. That was probably before they heard what the Baltimore based duo had done on Teen Dream. Working with producer Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Blonde Redhead), Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally recorded the album in a converted church. It seems like the surroundings became a part of the music. Both Beach House and Devotion were noted for their lo-fi qualities, wearing their austere productions proudly on their sleeves. With Teen Dream they moved towards a more spacious and expansive sound. Their distinctive dreamlike sound made up of modern electronics and elegantly chiming guitars was still there. However, those elements were more present once they were given more space. It's evident from the opening of "Zebra" that we're in for a new chapter in the Beach House story. And it's a beautifully sad one, the perfect place for the lovelorn to lose themselves inside of.
