"Vulnerable and piercing." Lead Singer Justin Ringle's voice is just that, and for Horse Feathers' 6th album, his "warm tenor and lyrics that speak of work, love and other struggles" are once again at play. However, Apperciation is distinguished from Horse Feathers' previous efforts; the record employs a brand new rhythm section, and instead of lush soundscape and strings leading the charge, Northern Soul-indebted cadences, w/ help from Hammond organ, piano, tambourine, and finger snaps are at the center of the musical framework. It's a musical step forward for ringle and gang, and their dynamic brand of folk rock is ready to take on a much larger audience. Highlights include "Don't Mean to Pry," "Without Applause," "Broken Beak," and "Altamont."
