Following last years highly praised Sea Birds EP comes the much-anticipated full length debut from Balam Acab on Tri Angle. The 20 year old producer pretty much set a new standard for mood music that's slowly spilling it's influence over into other genres (dubstep, rap, etc). For those unfamiliar, the sound here is swirling with a dark and moody atmosphere lined with a silver lining that sometimes takes the form of a lush synth melody, fragmented vocal samples, or heavily dubbed out beat. It's somewhere between ambient, psychedelic dubstep, and sensual emotive school beats - basically the perfect rainy day music. Check the opener "Welcome" that sets the tone, then get lost in "Oh Why," "Now Time," "Motion," "Await," and "Apart." Rich material to wrap your head around, housed in a beautiful pic sleeve. Recommended.
