Rare Aphex sesh with old chum John Peel, officially released for the first time! This date was recorded in 1995 and boy does it sound like it… any one of these tunes could have come straight from I Care Because You Do, an album that gently cradles the most delicate fragments of AFX’s genius but in recent years seems to have gotten lost between the 3rd wave of hype around SAW 1 & 2 and his more frenetic IDM stuff. The official release of highly rare psycho techno anthem “p-string” would be a huge treat if Nina Kraviz hadn’t gotten to it first last year, and although its worth buying a second time, luckily it’s the least tantalizing track here. “Slo Bird Whistle” is built around a - yup - bird whistle, filled out with an uncharacteristically lackadaisical beat and RDJ’s tender melodic sensibilities. “Radiator” is a fine slice of karate chop techno in the vein of “Wax The Nip” or “Start As You Mean To Go On,” and “Pancake Lizard” winds us down in finest downtempo soundtrack style. Part of Warp’s 30th anniversary series of BBC sessions from all their flagship artists including Boards Of Canada, Flying Lotus and more, housed in full color sleeve with spot floss varnish, printed inner sleeve and download code.
